SOMETAROU's Kamaasa Tenugui Hand Towel
Overview
SOMETAROU
Born in Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture in 1994.
Inspired by the works of dyeing artist Keita Miyairi, he began katazome dyeing under his advice.
He uses katazome to express the shapes he sees and words he hears every day.
In addition to his own work, he also designs and produces store curtains, signboards, and other items.

4 Key of SOMETAROU's Kamaasa Tenugui Hand Towel
Craftsmanship shines through in the handwork of the pouring-dyeing process.
This item is made using a dyeing technique called chusen.
Different from katazome, this technique involves layering one piece of cloth in a jacquard shape and squeezing out antiseptic paste along the pattern to create an enclosure called a "Dote". Then, dyes are poured into the cloth using a special tool called a kettle, and the cloth is dyed.
Unique beauty created by oozing and flickering
The dye permeates the entire cloth, so that there is no difference between the front and back sides of the cloth.
Because all processes are done by hand by craftsmen, the dyed fabric has a unique texture with gradation and blurring.
Although this is a technique for mass production, the expression of "blotches" and "fluctuations" that appear on each piece of cloth, which differ slightly depending on the skill of the craftsman, is the charm of shizome.
