Kamaasa Shoten (founded in 1908, CEO Daisuke Kumazawa), a specialty store for cooking tools in Kappabashi, has won the 2020 Good Design Award (sponsored by the Japan Design Promotion Organization) for its original product, "Kamaasa's Rice Kettle." Based on the concept of "a kettle that brings out the best in iron and cooks delicious rice," the iron pot is made from Nambu ironware from Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, and the lid is made from sawara sawara wood from Kiso, Nagano Prefecture. The shallow, round shape of the rice pot, which can be used to cook delicious rice even when using gas or induction stoves to suit modern kitchen conditions, is reminiscent of traditional rice pots, but has an appearance that feels somehow special and new, which led to the award.
